Why do I do what I do?

Many people have asked me why I decided to focus on dark subjects like death or dying. It is really not a problem for me. I tell everyone who asks that Estate Planning and Elder Law are absolutely not about death and dying - it is about life and love and caring how youand your loved ones can best be protected when facing unexpected (and unwanted) circumstances. When you take the time to look ahead and plan, you are providing guidance and protection for your loved ones. Everyone should feel comfortable that you and they are better able to handle those challenges.
I chose to focus on Elder Law and Estate Planning so that I can be the attorney who has happy clients when they leave my office. I want them to find the peace of mind they deserve. My clients are the most important people in my life (after my wife) and meeting with my clients is the start of a relationship that I hope will last many years.

How do I do what I do?

When I meet with new people, we spend time just getting to know each other. We will talk about family and explore what is on their mind that made them want to plan. What are the questions they need answered. I get to know my clients and about their loved ones so I can focus on their particular concerns, needs and desires. We talk at length so they can consider ideas and options and I ask them questions they probably have not even considered. When the meeting is done, I end up knowing about them, their loved ones and their life in ways that surprise me every time.
Together, we design a comprehensive plan to protect my clients during their lifetime and that allow them to pass their unique legacy (which is always more than just money) to their loved ones when they cannot use them any longer. When we are finished, they know that by working together they have "done the right thing" for themselves and their loved ones.
Meeting new people and taking time to get to know them is a wonderful experience and a great opportunity. Helping them resolve their concerns is a joy. Continuing relationships with my clients as the years go by is the icing on the cake for me. I found my life's work.
